Guide to Windows Phone end of support
HOW TO
Based on continuously decreasing use of Windows Phone devices and Microsoft’s own deprecation of support for the platform, on September 3, 2018, Duo removed the option to activate or reactivate Duo Mobile on Windows Phone 8.0 and lower devices. This end of activation will not affect mobile app authentications for users who have already downloaded and activated the app, nor will it have any effect on Windows Phone 8.1 or Windows Phone 10.x users.
All Windows Phones running Windows Phone 8 can be upgraded to Windows Phone 8.1, with release dependent on carrier rollout dates. Updates are usually available as firmware updates over the air and via Windows Phone Store.
As of January 1, 2019, Duo Support no longer provides troubleshooting for cases involving any Windows Phone 10.x and 8.x devices. On December 10, 2019, the Windows Phone operating system officially reached end-of-life status, meaning Microsoft is no longer providing security updates for any Windows Phone devices.
We removed the Duo Mobile Windows Phone app from the Windows Phone app store on March 10, 2020. This removal from the app store will not affect mobile app authentications for users who have already installed and activated the app.
Please note that SMS-delivered passcodes and phone callback authentication do not rely on the Duo Mobile app, and Duo will continue to support these types of authentication for Windows Phone devices with or without the app.
While we will continue to allow authentication involving Windows Phone devices, Duo strongly recommends migrating to supported Android or iOS devices.
