The latest major attack dubbed “Nuclear-Tier” Affects all Apple and IOS devices. These updates may not be installed automatically, so you should check your updates manually. The updates were released on September 13, 2021, by Apple.
The exploit is known as a “forced entry,” and the infection has successfully penetrated Apple’s new BlastDoor security for messages and is a similar type of attack related to “Pegasus,” which is a government-owned attack software supposedly used to fight crime.
The exploit is disseminated via text and does not require you to click on or reply to the text for your device to be fully compromised. The exploit would allow whoever is sending it out to have complete control of your Apple or IOS device and its data, including the microphone and camera.
The user of the Apple or IOS device will have no knowledge that the device received the message nor that the device would be compromised. The exploit appears to use a pdf document to initiate the infection.
The infection is currently rare and highly targeted, but that is likely to change as the exploit is distributed to other users for their use.
If you want to check to see if your Apple or IOS device has been infected, you can go to https://imazing.com to install a free trial of their software to scan your device. We are not sponsored by iMazing.com but would recommend that you protect your Apple or IOS device with similar software moving forward as these exploits will become more common.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, feel free to post below or give us a call if you think you may be infected.
